Wakesurfing is a lot like sufing, but you don’t
have to worry about being dragged by the wave, being rolled over
into the sand or being eaten by a shark. Besides, you can stay on
the wakesurf board until you are tired and not just the 3 to 5 seconds
a normal wave lasts. The only thing you can’t do is enter a
tube.
I apologize for not using a lifejacket
on the video, it is wrong to do so since by being so close
to the boat you inhale all the fumes and you could faint. I don’t
mean to scare you, but I do want to encourage you to use a lifejacket.
The first thing you need to do to be able to wakesurf is put the board floating
behind the boat and put your ankles on top of it. Once the boat is on idel speed,
put some pressure on the board so that it sticks to your feet. And when the boat
is starting to accelerate use the board to get up, but don’t push to hard
with your legs.
Once you are up try to direct the board towards the boat, don’t try surfing
outwards you should be going forward.
You have to find the length of the rope where you are neither far back from the
wake nor too forward. I recommend 1.5 meters between the board and the boat.
You need a considerably big wave. Invite all your
friends on board!
The key to wakesurfing is BALANCE. To do so you have to relax. If you place your
weight on the back foot, the board will stop and you will get away from the boat
and if you place your weight on the front foot, the tip of the board will sink
and you will fall.
You have to find the right balance.
Wakesurfing gives you a sense of freedom and balance that will help you with
your wakeboarding, slalom and tricks skiing since the key to all of them is balance.
Up next you will find a video where you will be able to see for real all the
explanation above mentioned. This is a 3.6 M file and you will need QuickTime
6.0 to see it. If you don’t have it, click on the next link.
