A big mistake that most of
the riders make is trying to jump by putting a lot of weight on
their boat and using a very long rope, however, to be able to jump
you need to learn how to EDGE first. Once you’ve got that
under control, then you can put more weight into your boat and
you are going to FLY!
The key to wakeboarding is having a progressive edge, this means
that you start out at a very slow speed and you put pressure over
the board while you speed up coming into the wave, so that the rope
is tight while you are in the air. If you manage to do all this,
everything else will be easier because by having a tight rope, height
and distance, you will be able to do grabs, spins and inverts.
Go wide with determination and progression.
Once you are wide open stop leaning against the boat and start gliding.
You must reach your maximum point (depending on how much speed you
can manage). For starters 5 meters away from the wake and begin glide
firmly standing on the board, looking for balance.
While you glide, start to
close up towards the wake.
Do not force the turn.
Start stretching your legs, but don’t get them stiff.
Once you get close to the wake, start pressuring the ankles and bend your knees
(just as if you were going to do a sit up).
Your back should always be straight!!!!!!!!!
The arms must be stretched, but not stiff, they should be relaxed.
Shoulders back.
You should keep the rope aligned with your belly button. This is where we have
our gravity center.
The main objective is to have all the pressure and speed that generated released
at the tip of the wake.
If you do everything right, you should be relaxed in the air with a tense rope
and your landing will be smooth.
